ISO DIS 45001.2 is approved!

Another important step for the final release of the new international standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS) was taken:

On July 13 ended the balloting period for the second draft of ISO / DIS 45001.2: 2017.  The results indicated that 57 votes of approval, seven votes of disapproval and eight abstentions had been submitted; consequently, the DIS has been approved by the ISO/PC 283.  It seems that the modifications to earlier editions now meet most countries’ needs.

Nevertheless, more than 1.600 comments were received, which will now be reviewed by PC 283 at a meeting in Malacca, Malaysia on 18 to 23 September. Following that review, the committee will know if it is able to avoid going through the FDIS stage and move directly to publication of the standard (potentially by the end of 2017), or whether an FDIS stage will be necessary (which would delay publication until 2018).

The objective of ISO 45001 is to help organizations in designing systems to prevent injury and ill health, regardless of size or industry. All of its requirements are designed to be integrated into an organization’s overall management processes, following the so-called ISO High Level Structure, already adopted by ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.
